The Barton Community College women's track and field team continued their strong start to the season competing this past weekend at the University of New Mexico's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Taking on top level competition from the southwest including California schools, the Lady Cougars set fourteen personal best marks with four top-ten placings.

Having just missed her person best last weekend in Nebraska, Keosha Sanders found that time in Saturday's 60m semifinals with a 7.45 clocking. The reigning conference track athlete of the week clocked just a .01 second slower in the finals finishing fourth behind two University of Southern California sprinters and a Nike sponsored athlete.

Joining Sanders with the conference honor in having leaping a personal best mark her triple jump runner-up last weekend, Amanda Carty again posted a personal best in the jumps, this time in the long jump hitting the sand at 5.67m (18-07.25) in finishing 14th overall.

Among the many impressive performances throughout the day, the Lady Cougars' 4x400m relay team also proved to be a force with a fifth place finish as the tandem of Asjah Wallace, Latoya Stewart, Olivian Jackson, and Cadeebra Calcote bettered the squad's previous best time in crossing the line in 3:52.65.

In the field events Barton had seven personal bests to join Sanders' long jump performance, highlighted by the shot put throw of Latavia Maines. Finishing ninth in the event, Maines' 14.37m (47-01.75) throw landed just outside the program's top ten historical chart.
