Barton women's track program races to third place at WTAMU Classic

The Barton Community College women's track and field team had a great two days of competition on the oval taking third in the 6th Annual West Texas A&M Classic in Canyon Texas.  Competing against mostly four-year competition, the Lady Cougars grabbed three golds within their seventeen Top-8 placings, had seventeen performances that exceeded the national qualifying standard, sixteen personal best performances, and saw its now top ranked 4x400m relay team record the seventh fastest time in school history.

The Lady Cougars sent two teams into the 4x400m with the "A Team" of Asjah Wallace, Latoya Stewart, Rian Robinson, and Chenelle Ricketts winning the event in the seventh fastest time in school history with the nation's top time of 3:38.64.  The second wave of Lady Cougars of Keosha Sanders, Mahendra McWhite, Tiara Williams, and Tia Steward also exceeded the national qualifying standards with a 3:54.12 to earn third place.

All four of the Barton 400m individual entries clocked personal best efforts as Barton went 1-2-4 in the event with national qualifying times.  Robinson won the event to lead the charge with a 54.01 to runner-up Ricketts' 54.72 while Stewart crossed in fourth at 55.04 with Steward outside the placings with a personal best 58.97.

Sanders, Ricketts, Wallace, and McWhite joined forces in the shorter 4x100m relay, finishing runner-up to the host Aggies by .05 with a nation's second best 45.65 time.

McWhite led the hurdle entries capturing the 100m variety with a personal best 14.27.  Wallace, who ran the short track hurdles for the first time, joined McWhite on the national qualifying list with a 14.70 in finishing fourth while Ed'Quisha Alvin clocked a personal best 15.02.  Wallace would also run the 400m hurdles, blowing away her best time by nearly two seconds in clocking the nation's third best time of 1:01.14 to place third in the event.

Sabrina Mason led a host of six Lady Cougars in the 200m with a second place finish of 23.56 with Robinson's 24.07 coming in fifth and McWhite placing seventh in 24.36.  Out of the placings but still exceeding national standards, Sanders timed a 24.48 while Williams fell .01 seconds shy of joining the six with a personal best in crossing in 24.48 with Steward's 25.37 concluding the entries.
