Fifteen personal best highlight No. 2 Lady Cougar track at Jayhawk Classic

Fifteen personal bests highlighted the most recent meet for the nation's No. 2 ranked Barton Community College women's track and field team as the Cougars grabbed two first place and three runner-up finishes Friday in the Jayhawk Classic hosted by the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.  

The Lady Cougars' event winners came in the high jump and 3000m as Ed'Quisha Alvin soared to a personal best 1.73m (5-08.00) to jump into the top three in the nation.  Wilyeska Suarez set her personal mark in the morning session of 3000m in a time of 10:59.39 with Mariah Stein also recording a personal best 11:46.58.  Mirena Goncalves ran the afternoon session blowing past her personal best by seven seconds in a nation's second best time of 10:21.17 in finishing 5th place.

Three runner-up finishes came during the day as the Lady Cougars continued to look strong in the short track events.  Sabrina Mason's nation sixth best and personal record 7.53 led four Lady Cougars in the 60m finals.  Keosha Sanders bettered her personal time clocking a seventh best time of 7.58 for fourth place, followed by Mahendra McWhite's personal best 7.89 for sixth place.  Chenelle Ricketts, who would finish eighth in the finals at 7.91, set her personal 7.86 fastest time in the prelims earlier in the day.   In the events prior to the 60m, White took second in the 60m hurdles clocking an 8.71 while Alvin recorded her personal best in the prelims at 9.14 to finish tenth.

McWhite would later team up with Tia Steward, Tiara Williams, and Asjah Wallace to give Barton another runner-up finish in the 4x400m relay coming in behind the University of Kansas at 3:54.43.

Emilykate Hopson-Boyd earned Barton another runner-up finish clocking a 2:28.00 in the morning's 800m session.

Setting a 200m personal best the last time on the Bill Easton track, Ricketts was just .07 seconds slower on Friday finishing in third place at 25.31 while Rian Robinson grabbed the fourth spot at 25.66.

Fiona Barnes jumped into the triple jump's national top ten with a personal best leap of 11.46m (37-07.25) in finishing third.

The Lady Cougars will next compete on Friday and Saturday, February 3-4, at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska.
