The Barton Community College women's track and field team competed this past weekend in Arkansas City in the Cowley College Tiger Invite. With most of the Lady Cougars competing in events for the first time, Barton captured two first place finishes within twelve top ten placings while recording two national qualifying performances amongst four personal individual bests.
Brianna Payne highlighted the many first time efforts in the events. Payne broke the fifteen second mark at 14.99 to qualifying for nationals in the 100m hurdles finishing third in the event while Olivian Jackson was next in the standings taking on the event for the first time in 15.47.
Tamara Style's personal best 57.96 captured the 400m leading three other Lady Cougars competing in the event for the first time with each finishing within the top five. Jackson placed second at 1:01.05 just .5 seconds in front of Danashka Lawrence and Payne's fifth place time of 1:02.50.
Style also led four Lady Cougars in the 200m with a second place national qualifying 24.62 time. Brooklyn Polk and Lawrence each set personal bests finishing third and fifth respectively at 25.20 and 25.45. Pressous Levels, making her Barton debut, took fourteenth in the event in 27.99 while also finishing fifth in the 100m in 13.42.
The Lady Cougars will next head to Canyon, Texas, competing in the West Texas A&M Classic and Multis held this coming Friday and Saturday.
