Piddon increases championship lead, Lady Cougars remain in fifteenth place

Despite its improved play in the second round of the NJCAA Women's Golf National Championship, the Barton Community College women's golf team remained in fifteenth place carding a five stroke improvement 359.  Teeing off in the second wave of participants, the Lady Cougars had a rough start to the opening two holes going a combined 20-over par for nearly a fifth of their score before settling in finishing the round at 108-over.  Barton looks to make a climb up the leaderboard in Wednesday's 11:54 a.m. central time tee off being paired by the most immediate teams in their path as Snead leads by four strokes and Wallace State at a more distant thirty-four strokes ahead.

The talk of the tournament has been the play of the Lady Cougars' Peerada Piddon as the Thailand sophomore carded her second consecutive even-par round of 71 to stretch her lead over the field to three.  Off to a par start through the first six holes, Piddon bogeyed the par-four seventh going on to make the turn with a 1-over 37.  Piddon got the stroke back on the par-four tenth recording her third birdie of the championship before parring out the remaining eight holes.

Two Lady Cougars made a big second day improvement in both the score and leaderboard.  Shaving eight strokes off her opening round, Mackenzie Fabrizius managed the course with no major hiccups to card a 17-over 88 to jump fourteen spots on the chart into a tie for 81st.   Despite beginning Tuesday's round with consecutive quadruple bogeys, freshman Kendra Jellison got herself back on track parring the par-five surrendering just eight more strokes in the six holes to card a 52 before closing the final nine with a 48 in shaving seven strokes from the first round to hold steady in 112th with a 29-over 100.

Fellow freshmen Miranda Kern and Lucia Rodriguez Zapico didn't fare as well taking different paths in slipping in the standings.  Kern, who got off to a good start with a 47 on the opening nine holes, a two stroke improvement from Monday's round, ran into trouble with triple bogeys in a three hole stretch on the back nine before concluding with a quadruple to hit the clubhouse tying Jellison with the 29-over 100 round to slip three spots to 103rd.   Rodriguez Zapico was nearly the opposite of Kern, beginning the opening two, and two of the first four holes, with triple bogeys, adding another on the seventh to post a 54.  Limiting the damage in the second nine, Rodriguez just had one triple in scoring a 50 to finish the round at 33-over sliding down to the 110th position.
