Three double-double performances lead Lady Cougars doubling up Colby

The Barton Community College women's basketball jumped on Colby Community College from the opening tip Wednesday night at the Barton Gym cruising to an 83-40 victory. The Lady Cougars upped their Jayhawk mark to 3-6 and 11-9 on the season while Colby remains winless in the conference dropping to 0-10 and 4-17 on the season.    Barton will wrap up its two-game home stand on Saturday in a 1:30 p.m. matinee against Seward County Community College.

The Lady Cougars used an early 17-2 run to open the first quarter holding the Trojans to one field goal racing out to a 17-4 lead.   Barton then put together an 11-0 run early in the following ten minutes building a commanding 39-14 halftime score limiting the Trojans to a mere 16% shooting from the field.

Scoring twenty-seven points in the third quarter, the Lady Cougars left little hope for a Colby comeback as treys from Alexus Bryson, Kilee Harris, and Regan Unruh helped expand the lead by nineteen for a 66-22 advantage.

The lead grew to forty-eight in the first five minutes of the final quarter before late Colby baskets cut the deficit as the Trojans outscored Barton 18-17 in the quarter.

The victory was the tenth straight at the Barton Gym over Colby increasing Barton's dominance in the series to 55-8.  The Lady Cougars also dominated the boards by thirty-seven collecting more offensive rebounds (28) than Colby's total rebounds (25).

Three double-double performances highlighted the Lady Cougar scoring with five players reaching double digit points.   Harris led the triples with nineteen points and eleven rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, Unruh posted her second with fifteen points and ten boards, and Megan Jirak recorded her eighth of the season scoring ten points and thirteen rebounds reaching the ten board mark for the thirteenth time of the season ranking second in the conference at 10.7 per game.   Barton also benefitted by the twenty-four combined points from the point guard position as Dominique Baker and Bryson each scored twelve points each.  Harris and Baker led with three assists each with Harris leading the team with six assists.

Two Colby players tied for team honors as Aubrey Thomas and Amber Perryman each scored nine points with Perryman also leading the team with eight rebounds.
