Barton Softball wins tenth straight, sweeps Swedes for second time

The Barton Community College softball team won its tenth straight game picking up a pair of non-conference victories Tuesday in Lindsborg against the junior varsity squad from Bethany College.   The Cougars put away the Swedes early in the opener cruising to an 11-0 five inning victory then took the night cap 5-1 behind a four run third inning.   The second sweep of the season over Bethany improves Barton to 12-1 on the season with its next four games at Cougar Field beginning on Thursday against Brown Mackie College before Sunday's twin bill against Cowley College.  First pitch for each doubleheader set for 1:00 p.m.

The Cougars drilled five doubles in the game, two coming off the bat of cleanup Brittany Wood, as the top four in the lineup went 7-for-10 before being replaced in the top of the fourth inning.  Leadoff batter Maddison Schofield reached base twice in front of Cadie O'Donnell's 3-for-3 three runs batted in while Jayden Gonzales and Wood combined for four RBI with all three hits coming via the double.  Lili Ertmann's second inning RBI double added her name to the doubles party as the sophomore catcher went 2-for-2 at the end of the lineup.

Madison Didion silenced the Bethany bats throughout her four innings of work scattering just two while striking out eight.  Improving to 6-1 on the season, the freshman also recorded her third straight game without a walk while running her scoreless streak to nineteen consecutive innings spanning the last four games.

Having eleven hits in game one, the Cougars put eight on the board in the second producing five runs in the victory.  Scoring a lone run in the first, Barton broke the game open with a four run third inning.   Schofield got things going with a leadoff single coming home on Gonzales's second double of the day.  Wood followed with a single to put runners on the corner before Hosey's single to center gave Barton its second run of the inning.  Holly Posegate would single in two more runs thanks in part to Hosey having swiped second base putting herself in scoring position.

Posegate went the distance in the circle keeping her sophomore season unblemished at 6-0 striking out three while walking none and giving up only two hits.   Posegate's lone blemish came unearned after a fourth inning leadoff bunt single would score following an infield error and sac fly.
