The sixth ranked Barton Community College men's soccer team rattled the net four times in a span of two minutes Friday in rolling to a 5-1 win over Johnson County Community College in first round Region VI playoff action at the Cougar Sports Complex.
Improving to 15-1-2 on the year, Barton will host the second round at 2:00 p.m. Sunday against Dodge City Community College (11-4-2) with the winner advancing to the Plains District semifinals next week in Texas. Johnson County ends the season at 9-9-1.
Barton had a pair of players with two goals on the day, one of them being freshman Tevin Rochester whose two late first half scores gave the Cougars the edge into halftime. The KJCCC's leading scorer Gabriel Arraes earned his first of two goals on the day converting the subsequent penalty kick after being fouled in the box 4:23 into second half action.
Approaching thirteen minutes left in the game, Arraes finished off Nicolas Torres' third season assist with a strike to the far post in moving into the program's top ten of season and career goals scored with 17 and 23 respectively.
Sixty-four seconds later Torres rattled the nets for the second time of the freshman's season in sending a 25-yard direct kick to the far post pushing Barton's lead out to 5-0 with 12:05 remaining.
Johnson County spoiled what would have been the Cougars' 12th shutout of the season as Eloy Flores' cross was met in the box by Axxel Chazaro in striking upper-90 for his ninth of the season with 1:32 left in the contest.
