The Barton Community College men's soccer team combined an overall offensive and defensive solid performance producing single goals in each half while keeping the net clean for a 2-0 victory Wednesday at Garden City Community College. The victory evens the Cougars' conference mark to 3-3 improving to 6-3 on the year while dropping Garden City to 1-5 in the Jayhawk West and 9-7 on the season. Next up for the Cougars will be a Saturday trip to Goodland, Kansas, for a 4:00 p.m. regional game at Northwest Kansas Technical College.
Lucas Alves rattled the nets for both of Barton's goals, getting the Cougars off to a great start just 3:35 into the contest. Launching a forty-three yard free kick, Alves' shaped shot exceeded the team's combined rush to the box which included the outstretched arms of the Broncbuster goalkeeper splitting the space between the posts.
Almost as impressive of a play came twelve minutes into the second half with Mario Ramirez sending a forty-plus yard diagonal pass hitting Alves in stride on the far side of the field sending a missile through the box past the keeper for the Brazilian sophomore's fourth goal of the year.
