It's been three years of disappointment for the Barton Community College men's soccer team when facing the Beavers of Pratt Community College. Sunday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex, the Cougars found themselves once again falling behind the Beavers just thirteen minutes into the contest before responding with three unanswered to exorcise the past with a 3-1 victory. The win improves Barton to 2-1 in conference play and 4-1 on the season while dropping Pratt to 1-2 in the West and 3-4 on the year. The Cougars' next action will come Friday traveling to Hesston College with the women's squad beginning at 5:00 p.m. followed by the men's contest slated for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
The Beavers drew first blood coming at just 12:05 into the contest as Jordan Stubbings' laid out header found the back of the net. Coming off a free kick, the Beavers' Aaron Grant leaping header on the back side of the box deflected back thru the box where Stubbings finished with a spectacular play.
Attacking the Pratt defense with seven shots in the first half, the Cougars broke through with 20:37 remaining as Mario Ramirez placed a perfect chip-in over the defense to Luca Perez who finished far post for the equalizer.
Locking down the Beavers for the final forty-five minutes of play giving up only three shots, the Barton offense was efficient in its attack sending two shots on frame with both tickling the back of the net.
Sprinting up the left hand side, Julio Vicente split the Beaver defense before beating Erwin Navarez near post for the game winner with 29:07 to play. Team captain Vinicius Monteiro made sure the three year drought ended Sunday with a threaded pass to Angel Lopez at the top of the eighteen where the Wichita freshman sent a one-touch rocket to the top corner for his first collegiate goal in clinching the victory.
