Marvin Cannon of the Barton Community College men's basketball team has been named the KJCCC Kansas MTXE Men's Division I Basketball Player of the Week for his efforts in week one of the 2017 season.
Cannon heated up as the week went on to average over seventeen points and seven rebounds in twenty-six minutes per game. Reaching double figures in each of the three contests, Cannon shot 73% from the field including a 67% accuracy from beyond the arc while going perfect from the charity stripe in ten throws. Grabbing eight rebounds in his collegiate debut, Cannon matched that feat in Saturday's contest while dropping a career high twenty-five points in twenty-seven minutes of action.
The Cougars opened the season with three victories beginning with a 102-57 win over the junior varsity squad from McPherson College before wrapping up the week with a pair of wins in last weekend's Best Western Angus Inn Booster Club Classic. Barton knocked off Division II Highland Community College 81-76 before the clinching 97-75 win over Redlands Community College.
Concluding its non-conference schedule Wednesday 110-78 victory over the Sterling College junior varsity squad, Barton turns its attention to Saturday's conference opener against Colby Community College in a 7:30 p.m. tip.
