One year ago the Barton Community College men's basketball team put up historic scoring numbers against McPherson College junior varsity. Tuesday night at the Barton Gym the Cougars again made school history against the Bulldogs picking up win No. 1000 in the program's forty-seventh year of competition with a 124-72 victory. Barton raced out to a 7-0 lead then put together three stretches of ten or more unanswered points to at the break 72-30. Had not for an early first half injury of one Cougar, each player saw more than ten minutes of court time throughout the game and contributed in the scoring column as Barton cruised in the second half to its fifth straight win. The Cougars improve to 6-2 on the season with 2015 NJCAA Division II national qualifier Hesston College coming to the Barton Gym for a 7:30 p.m. tip on Friday.
Seven Cougars reached double-figures with Derek Dorn's career high twenty-six points leading four Cougars with new personal bests scoring nineteen first half points and finishing 9-of-13 from the field including a perfect 5-of-5 from behind the arc. Also getting career highs were Keith Mack with nineteen, Dequandre Dentmond with thirteen and a team high eight rebounds, and John Barbee with eleven. Also hitting double-digits in scoring was Eddie Hunt with twelve, Tyrone Acuff with eleven and team leading four assists, and Mangisto Deng with ten.
Vincent Watts led two Bulldogs in double digits with eighteen to go along with a team high four rebounds while Taylor Ellison came off the bench scoring thirteen.
Barton's victory brings the program's record to 1000-455, good for a .687 win percentage, while also picking up Head Coach Craig Fletchall's 235th victory at Barton going 235-92 (.719) in his current eleventh season at the Barton helm.
