Barton represented at 2016 Rio Olympics by eight former student-athletes

The long tradition of former Barton Community College student-athletes qualifying for the Olympics continues with the 2016 version of the Olympiad games taking place August 5-21 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.   Seven former members of the Barton track and field team will be competing, as well as, two former players from the men's basketball team.  In addition to the athletes, former track and field coach Lance Brauman who is now a professional track and field coach and founder of PURE Athletics is in attendance coaching twelve athletes including former Barton athlete Alonso Edward.

Bahamas:  Leevan Sands *4th Olympics (Triple Jump)
Canada:  Akeem Haynes *2nd Olympics (100m and 4x100m Relay pool)
Jamaica:  *Team Captain - Veronica Campbell-Brown *5th Olympics (Women's Athletics - 200m, 4x100m Relay pool) and Simone Facey *1st Olympics (Women's Athletics - 200m and 4x100m Relay pool)
Lithuania:  Antanas Kavaliauskas *2nd Olympics (Men's Basketball)
Nigeria:  Ebi Ere *1st Olympics (Men's Basketball)
Panama:  Alonso Edward *2nd Olympics (Men's Athletics - 200m) *Flag bearer for opening ceremonies
U.S. Virgin Islands:  LaVerne Jones-Ferrette *4th Olympics (Women's Athletics - 200m)
